I might be a little biased, but I think mountain vacations are some of the most versatile and beautiful vacations you can take. I feel so fortunate that I can make weekend getaways throughout the year to see all the different picturesque scenes the mountains offer! Many people think of the mountains as a winter or spring vacation. I understand, that is when the skiing is great, the snow covers the ground, and you feel like you have escaped to a winter wonderland! But, what about the rest of the year – the “off season” if you will? What can the mountains offer you then? Let me tell you!
Winter:
As I stated earlier, this is one of the most popular times to visit the mountains. Sleigh rides in the snow, hot chocolate, and a fire in the fireplace. This is what comes to mind when many think of a mountain vacation. This image is not far off from what you could expect from a winter get-a-way. Ski season usually starts around December here in Colorado, though it is not usually the best skiing snow. Visit Breckenridge in January and witness the International Snow Sculpture Championships. Maybe sledding or snowshoeing sounds appealing to you. The winter time offers many great opportunities to enjoy the mountains.
Spring:
Now is the time for some good skiing! By now, Colorado has gotten several good snowfalls. The temperatures might even be warm enough to ski with a light jacket only! The days can be beautiful and sunny. Spring skiing can last late into April, even May at some resorts! It is a great way to escape the heat that has already started in many areas of the country.
Summer:
Colorado summers are wonderful in the mountains. A hot day is usually only in the 80’s and the nights still get very cool. Some of the resorts, like Breckenridge, offer special summer activities. Breckenridge has the Epic Discovery park which has a huge slide, a coaster, maze, jumpy castles, and so much more! Summer is also a great time to hike or bike through the mountains. Another great attribute of the mountains in the summer is the wild flowers. Every July Crested Butte holds a wild flower festival that is not to be missed. Or maybe you would like to visit Maroon Bells and see it covered in brightly colored flowers. Summer is truly a beautiful time of year!
Fall:
Well, I saved my favorite season for last. Fall in the mountains is one of favorite things in the whole world. As the Aspen trees start to turn that vibrant shade of yellow, my family and I know it is time to take a long drive! Maroon Bells is one of the most breath taking sites to see when the leaves are turning! A great town to visit in the fall is Telluride, CO. Hiking amongst the autumn leaves will be one of you favorite vacations (and one that should be on everyone’s bucket list!) Plus, you can soak up all the history of that great town!
There you have it! As you can see, I love the mountains and think they are a wonderful destination any time of the year! If you would like to visit Colorado to experience this, please contact our team today! We would love to help! Now, if you will excuse me, the mountains are calling, and I must go!
