As the world is opening up more and more, and people are getting comfortable taking the big trips they’ve been dreaming of, it’s more important than ever to be prepared for travel and anything that comes your way. But I’m not talking about what to bring in your carry on, the importance of a fanny pack, or any of the fun, sexy parts of travel. I’m talking about the boring stuff. Getting Your Paperwork in Order!
Passport:
I have heard more stories this past few months about expired passports, failed attempts to expedite them, and all of the drama that is involved. You may not have plans to use your passport YET, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be on top of it. Take a few minutes and pull your passports out of your safe or wherever you keep them. Note the expiration date and plan ahead to renew. Heck, put the date in your calendar, even if it’s a few years away. There’s not reason not to be proactive now, especially since we do not know when things will be running with more efficiency. In addition to never buying another mask again, I have a goal of never hearing a story about a lapsed passport and a canceled trip. Get on top of it now and avoid heartache in the future!
TSA/Global Entry:
If you don’t have TSA Pre-Check or Global entry yet, I recommend you get them. I can’t say enough good things about them. Just like your passport, these expire. So if you are looking to apply or renew get on top of it now to get ahead of any trouble in the future. Save yourself time at the airport by putting in the time now.
Vaccines:
I’m not talking about THAT vaccine. It’s worth knowing that some locations require you to have certain vaccinations for entry. If you know you are going somewhere and will need a shot or two, don’t put it off. No one wants to get shots, so just get it done!
Make sure you and your whole family have all of your ducks in a row. That way, when the mood strikes and you plan a last minute trip the only thing you’ll be scrambling to do is make sure that all of your things fit in your suitcase without being overweight.
